I’m at a point in my life where, a year and month into my motherhood journey, comfort is…well, cliche as this sounds, it’s everything. Comfort in my heart, my soul, for my peace of mind. Comfort in my style!
I decided to go in a bit of a different direction for The Journey With Janet and talk comfy and practical mum style. I’m no expert but I enjoy it!
I’m into a trend whose versatility I’ve underestimated all my life…up until this moment. Sneakers. Sneakers, sneakers, sneakers. After 9 months of pregnancy, wearing flats for most of that period, I returned to work and my social life wearing heels with a wobble feeling cringeworthy and unsexy. Some of you know what I’m talking about!
The transition, all this time, hasn’t been as effortless. And when I slipped into a pair of sneakers a few weeks ago to run some errands and meet a friend (my favourite pair of flats had gotten a laughing mouth at the front and it was too hot for boots), I wondered why I hadn’t considered this a while back.
Coupled with the occasional pangs of pain that I still feel when I bend, given my C-section and all the times I spend bending to pick Huru, change his diaper etc, I’ve had to reset my thinking to what’s practical and of course, comfortable.
I recently posted a picture on my social media wearing Nike Roshe sneakers and the feedback was pleasantly unexpected. So I began to think of ways of wearing this otherwise stereotyped look, and came up with a sneaker look book for mums seeking to remain stylish, edgy and maintain the comfort and practicability that comes with sneaker wear.
Here’s my first look of the week. I’ll call this one ‘Mums Going To A Party’ sneaker look. Hope you like it and find a way to incorporate it in your wardrobe!
